The winter months mean cooler weather, a chance to get cosy and to eat warm and nourishing foods. They also usher in cold and flu season.
If you’re preparing food for you or your family and friends, there are some things you can do to reduce the risks of passing on a nasty cold or flu.
Top tip: If you’re the one who is sick, avoid preparing, cooking or serving food if you can. If this isn’t possible, remember to follow the tips below.
Some other tips and tricks:
- Wash your hands regularly and properly using soap and water. Take special care to wash your hands before handling food and after blowing your nose or coughing.
- Covering your mouth or nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Throwing used tissues away immediately (and then wash your hands!).
- Keep surfaces clean – this means in the kitchen and around the house too.
- Avoid sharing crockery and cutlery with others.
